Current projects:
1) Booster seat information to pediatricians within the state
a) Pediatrician Survey to determine barriers to discussing Booster seats with families
The first question we need to elicit from pediatricians is the barriers to providing this information. What would assist them in getting the message across? Do we need to provide them with pamphlets? statistics? recommendations? etc. How often are they currently discussing booster seats with appropriate families? What resources do they currently have available to families? Are they even aware of current legislative efforts in the state?
b) Pediatrician Educational Program
After we acknowledge the needs of pediatricians to help promote booster seat usage to families, we will supply them with an educational packet and program in an established venue within their local area. Our Trauma Department at CCHMC has already worked on such a project here in Cincinnati and showed that pediatricians increased the time spent discussing booster seats with families after their program. They have agreed to take the lead on this portion of the project.
2) Booster seat legislation - write letters today to your local legislators in support of this bill. (Click here to view Postcard or Legislative Bill, Laws Prove to be Effective in Protecting Child Passengers)
3) Poison prevention centers
a) Work with legislators to increase funding to Poison Centers.
b) To consider a project with pediatricians to increase education.
